The definition of a teacher is ‘a person who teaches, especially in a school’. A teacher is more than a person who teaches. My work as a teacher is to bring students in the classroom where we can create an environment that is rich with learning, caring, and opportunities. My work is to differentiate by meeting the needs of each individual student so they can be successful in school. My work is to teach lessons that are engaging and interactive. My work encompasses around the rule, “treat everyone how you want to be treated”. My work involves preparing, lecturing, and grading. My work is to motivate students with words of encouragement so they can persevere through their work and in life. My work is to recognize when students are getting frustrated and to let them know that it is okay to feel frustrated. My work is to make sure my students understand what I am modeling and teaching them. My work can be hard sometimes because of the amount teachers have to do besides teaching. But my work can also be rewarding when you see the lightbulb in a student’s face that means they absolutely get it and they understand. I am a teacher who cares and who believes that every kid deserves the best a teacher has to offer. I am a teacher who sees students as a glass half full and has something to offer to the classroom. I am a teacher who believes that education can set you free from poverty and hardships. And I am a teacher who believes that building strong and positive relationships with students is key in every classroom. In my class I will teach my students perseverance, so they can achieve anything in life. I will teach wonder and curiosity, so my students know how to ask questions when they don’t understand something. I will teach them that it is okay to be frustrated so they know that we are only human and everyone makes mistakes, but with mistakes brings growth and improvement.
